Another foray into genres I don’t know a great deal about. Cheeky electro house to begin with, followed by a bit of breakbeat and then some dirty dubstep. Some nice Prodigy and Freestylers remixes in there and a belting dubstep version of Printer Jam by Mistabishi.

I was originally going to do two separate mixes: an electro house / breaks one and a dubstep one. For me though, a whole hour of dubstep is a little too much, so I narrowed it all down to one mix in the end. I just kept the dubstep tunes I thought were particularly unusual. They do get a bit bizarre towards the end!

Shiminee

A song about my cat. Deliberately awful. Made in the style of, and dedicated to, Wesley Willis.

Shiminee - Wesley Willis Tribute

Wesley Willis was a genius. He was a diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and wrote music to help keep his inner demons (which he called “Heartbreaker,” “Nervewrecker,” and “Meansucker”) at bay. The music of Wesley Willis was nothing special, in fact it was pretty terrible. He couldn’t sing, played all of his songs on a dodgy old keyboard (using its own inbuilt backing), but his lyrics are unusual, funny and compelling. Classics of his include: ‘The Chicken Cow’ (a mythical beast that would bite your bum), ‘Eazy E’ (dedicated to the NWA legend) and ‘I Whupped Batman’s Ass’.

I strongly urge you to check out his music. There’s loads of it on YouTube, Last.fm and iTunes.

Habibi

A tune I wrote a few weeks ago. Arabic influenced instrumental hip hop, created using Ableton Live with various plugins and virtual instruments (including a virtual guitar on Nintendo DS!)

Another new mix, recorded earlier in the year by me and Jungle Jim (aka Beffrey & Jungle) over a weekend. Quite up tempo at 130BPM, but in still in keeping with the typical leftfield Beffrey & Jungle style.

Features a remix we did of Toxic by Britney Spears and Fat Beat by Mr Oizo. We call it ‘Fat Brit’!

This is the last in my recent cover versions trilogy, featuring a Smiths tribute section and a few other gems. Highlights include an excellent cover of ‘Killing in the name’ by Rage Against the Machine (done in a jazz / funk style), a salsa version of Daft Punk’s ‘Around the World’ and ‘Miss Dy-Na-Mi-Tee’ performed by a ukulele orchestra!

It doesn’t look like we actually made the world record now which is a shame. A fun day all round nonetheless…

Many thanks go to Lee for featuring quite heavily in the video and being very funny! He’s the tea drinking zombie, by the way!

Zombie Aid

I’ve been looking forward to this for months, ever since seeing the last one on North West Tonight:

It’s taking place in and around The Printworks in Manchester on Sunday 1st November (this Sunday). They’re closing the Arndale Centre down for a Dawn of the Dead style mass zombie shuffle through a shopping precinct, there will be two zombie weddings and several world record attempts. Most of them involve the record number of zombies who have congregated in one place and done a certain thing. The one I love is ‘the most zombies to have ridden a Ferris wheel at one time’.

Registration is from 1:30 to 3:30 and the walk itself is about 5 /6 ish I think.
There’s more info on their Facebook group page. I’ll be there from about 2:30.
